As of 2026-08-07 — verify before mailing anything important, since collectors do change addresses.
TrueAccord is a debt collector that primarily communicates through automated email and text sequences rather than phone calls, and it buys or is assigned defaulted consumer debt from other creditors. If TrueAccord is contacting you, it’s worth sending a debt validation letter before paying — the company states it pauses collection activity once a dispute is submitted, until it can provide validating documentation.
Has TrueAccord been the subject of any regulatory action?
Yes. In a January 2024 Stipulation and Final Agency Order and Assurance of Discontinuance with the Colorado Attorney General and the Administrator of the Colorado Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, TrueAccord agreed to pay $500,000 and stop collecting on debt originated by unlicensed lenders affiliated with Native American tribes (“tribal loans”) that carried finance charges far above Colorado’s legal cap — some approaching 900% APR. The order found TrueAccord collected on such loans from at least 28,728 Colorado consumers between November 2017 and June 2022, before it voluntarily stopped in June 2022. TrueAccord denied wrongdoing as part of the settlement. If you’re unsure whether a loan you’re being collected on was made by a licensed lender, see Debt Buyer for how ownership and origination can get murky after a loan changes hands.
Questions & Answers
Is TrueAccord a legitimate debt collector?
TrueAccord shows up in the CFPB consumer complaint database, which tracks real complaints filed against real companies — so it is a legitimate, registered entity, not a scam name. That doesn't mean every call claiming to be from them is real; scammers impersonate real collectors. Verify what they're collecting before paying anything — see what to do the first time a collector contacts you.

How do I stop TrueAccord from calling me?
Under the FDCPA, you can send TrueAccord a written cease-and-desist letter and they must stop contacting you except to confirm they've received it or to notify you of specific legal action. This doesn't erase the debt — it only stops the calls. See the cease-and-desist letter glossary entry for how to send one.

How do I dispute a debt with TrueAccord?
Send a written debt validation request to TrueAccord's dispute address within 30 days of first contact — they must then verify the debt before continuing collection. See the contact details above for the current mailing address.

Is TrueAccord on my credit report?
If TrueAccord is collecting on an account, it can appear on your credit report as a collection tradeline, separate from the original creditor's listing. Check your credit report directly to confirm, and see the credit report dispute guide if anything about the listing looks wrong.
